34 EHR Products Receive Certification from 2 ONC-ATCBs

Thirty-four EHR products received HHS certification from two of the three ONC-ATCBs, ending months of waiting by anxious eligible providers and hospitals, many of whom have put their EHR purchases on hold in order to ensure that they could meet Meaningful Use criteria.  To achieve Meaningful Use, providers and healthcare organizations must use “certified EHR technology.”

As we reported late last night, Utah-based ChartLogic Inc., which has been providing EHRs to physician practices since 1994, announced yesterday that its EHR product had been certified by The Drummond Group.

The Certification Commission (CCHIT) announced this morning that it has certified 33  products, including 19 Complete EHRs, which meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria for either eligible provider or hospital technology, and 14 EHR Modules, which meet one or more – but not all – of the criteria for Meaningful Use.  CCHIT expects to announce additional certified products in the upcoming weeks.

While the majority of the complete EHRs are certified for the Eligible Provider domain, EpicCare Inpatient-Core EMR has been certified as a Complete EHR for hospitals.

CCHIT Chair Karen M. Bell, MD noted that many companies offering ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certified EHR modules applied for certification of their products as certified complete EHRs but testing could not be completed on a small number of criteria (such as electronic prescribing) because planned updates to the test procedures by NIST were not available at the time of testing. These products are certified as EHR Modules in the interim but may return to become certified as complete EHRs in the near future.  She noted that providers interested in purchasing these products should follow CCHIT’s regular ONC-ATCB product certification updates available at http://www.cchit.org as they occur.

CCHIT Executive Director Alisa Ray said that the information released today will be published on CCHIT’s website early next week. In addition, CCHIT will be report the list of certified products to ONC for publication on its Certified HIT Product List (CHPL).  As of this article’s publication time, the CHPL list is not yet available on the ONC site.

I would like to point out an oversight, if I may. There is an EMR software that has been approved in September, but not mentioned in the above post. ifa systems (ifa4emr.com) had been certified by The Drummond Group on September 22, 2010, yet there is no mention of them in your post.
ifa systems has been a world leader in EMR for ophthalmology for over 25 years. I find it a little upsetting that there is no mention, besides which the Drummond Group report came out in October 2010, ifa was in their report.
    Thank you for your time.
